Gobrecht Settles

Florida State settled its contract dispute with former women’s basketball coach Chris Gobrecht for $108,000, less than one-third of what had been originally sought.

The university filed a breach of contract lawsuit seeking $380,000 after Gobrecht resigned May 7 to become head coach at Southern California, her alma mater. Prior to coaching at Florida State, Gobrecht was at the University of Washington.

Arizona and Kentucky could have a rematch of their NCAA championship game if each wins in the first round of the Maui Invitational in Hawaii.

Arizona will play Boston College in the opening round of the 14th annual Maui Invitational. Kentucky will play George Washington in another first-round game on Nov. 24 and is in the same bracket as Arizona.

The U.S. Naval Academy signed men’s basketball coach Don DeVoe to a new 10-year contract after the Midshipmen made the NCAA Tournament for the second time in four years. DeVoe has an 80-62 record in five seasons at Navy.

Shea Ralph, one of Connecticut’s most promising young players and the Big East Rookie of the Year in 1996, has been lost for the season after sustaining the same knee injury that cut short her freshman year.
