Howe About A Comeback

Compiled From Wire Services

Gordie Howe will make another attempt at becoming the first pro hockey player to play in six consecutive decades. The Hall of Famer has scheduled a news conference today.

He will announce plans to skate with the Detroit Vipers of the International Hockey League in the team’s home opener Oct. 3.

Howe, 69, scored 801 goals in 26 NHL seasons. He played 33 pro seasons, from 1946-1980.

The Boston Bruins got No. 8 overall draft pick Sergei Samsonov to come to terms in principle on a three-year contract.

The Los Angeles Kings exercised a one-year option on 13-year veteran center Ray Ferraro’s contract, keeping the 33-year-old career 327-goal scorer with the team through the 1998-99 season.
