Torretta Back In Seahawks Uniform As No. 3 Qb

Associated Press

The Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday added Gino Torretta to their roster to be their No. 3 quarterback while starter John Friesz is out.

Friesz suffered a broken right thumb in Seattle’s 41-3 loss to the New York Jets last Sunday. He will be sidelined eight weeks.

To make room for Torretta on their 53-man roster, the Seahawks waived cornerback Dexter Seigler.

Torretta, a former Heisman Trophy winner, joined the Seahawks for the final five games last season after Friesz suffered a broken leg. He went to training camp with the Seahawks in Cheney this summer, but was released Aug. 11.

Torretta played for coach Dennis Erickson at the University of Miami. Erickson said Torretta has been working as a stockbroker in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., since his release.

With Friesz out, Warren Moon, 40, becomes the Seahawks’ starting quarterback and Jon Kitna, who hasn’t thrown an NFL pass, moves up to No. 2.
