‘George Of The Jungle’ A Pleasant Surprise

FRIDAY, SEPT. 5, 1997

Based as it is on an old afternoon cartoon series, which was known more for its theme song than for inventive animation, “George of the Jungle” is surprisingly good. It should appeal both to the young and the young at heart. Starring Brendan Fraser as the vine-swinging, tree-slamming Tarzan wannabe, the film emphasizes character and self-parody over slapstick stunts, which is a pleasant surprise in and of itself. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
