Think Tank Thinks Seattle Could Try For 2012 Olympics

Associated Press

Seattle could be a strong contender for the 2012 Summer Olympics, a new study says.

The $112,000 study, prepared by the Discovery Institute, a local conservative think tank, said the passage last year of a bond measure for transportation development and the construction of new stadiums for the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners would be assets if a bid were made.

The study also said an Olympic Village would have to be built, and some people promoting the possibility of a bid said it could be a catalyst to redevelop an industrial area of the city.

Seattle does not have adequate facilities, however, for such major events as aquatics and track and field.
