Breeders To Churchill

The Breeders’ Cup will return to Churchill Downs in 1998, making the picturesque home of the Kentucky Derby the only track to stage the event four times.

The first three Breeders’ Cup runnings at Churchill Downs rank among the event’s four best-attended days, topped by a record crowd of 71,671 in 1994. The 1988 crowd of 71,237 was the event’s previous record. More than 66,000 gathered in 43-degree temperatures in 1988.

Only Santa Anita’s crowd of 69,155 in 1986 compares favorably with the Churchill Downs figures.
