Bulldogs Shut Out Badgers

The Sandpoint High School football team scored three touchdowns in the first half as the Bulldogs shut out the visiting Bonners Ferry Badgers 30-0 in a season-opening football game Friday.

The Bulldogs used a 2-yard run by Nick Jackson in the first quarter to open the scoring.

Running back Kurt Berkley added two more touchdowns in the second period.

Sandpoint closed out the scoring with a touchdown and a safety. Wide receiver Caleb Bowman caught a 30-yard pass from Paul Nieman for the final TD.

Falls Christian 38, Kootenai 30

The Eagles slipped past the Warriors in Harrison.

Falls Christian gained the early lead in the first quarter leading 22-8, but Kootenai came back by the second half scoring eight in the first quarter and six more in the second quarter, leaving the halftime score at 22-14.

Falls Christian’s Jared Bligh threw 7 of 13 passes and three touchdowns, with only one interception. Kootenai’s Justin Schorzman went 5 for 13 with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Joey Phelps had 20 carries for 123 yards.

Kootenai’s Doug Ott ran for 182 yards, and Randy Reinhofer had three receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

Clark Fork 54, Mullan 6

The Wampus Cats beat the Tigers in easy fashion at Clark Fork.

The game was 27-0 in the first quarter, 40-6 by halftime, and ended 3 minutes into the third quarter because of the mercy rule.

Quarterback Nate Stutzke threw for six touchdowns, four of them to wide receiver Brent Stevens. Stutzke threw 8 for 14 and 228 yards.

Lewiston 47, Moscow 28

Bengals quarterback Sennett Pierce passed for more than 200 yards to lead Lewiston over visiting Moscow in a season opener for both teams.

Soccer

Sandpoint used contributions from three freshmen and one sophomore to top Lake City, 2-0, in a North Idaho Soccer League match Thursday at Sandpoint.

After a scoreless first half, Bulldog freshman Amanda Cravens scored in the 51st minute. Sophomore Dana Libbey added the second goal at the 82-minute mark.

The match was Sandpoint’s season opener. LC is 1-1.

Volleyball

Lakeland defeated Coeur d’Alene 15-7, 15-13, 15-12 in a non-league match at CdA.

Becky Hardy led the Hawks (1-1) with nine kills and Melissa Adams had eight. CdA (0-2) was led by Krissi Ruiz, who had five kills.
