Roy Schmidt Valley, Wash.

Service for Roy M. Schmidt, 73, will be at 11 a.m. today at Valley Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Schmidt, who was born in New Salem, N.D., died Tuesday.

He married Cora Neiffer in 1963.

They operated a dairy farm in the Valley area for 14 years until 1984. They also raised beef from 1985 to 1993.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dennis Schmidt of Spokane, Michael Schmidt of Apple Valley, Calif., and Stewart Schmidt of Mount Vernon, Wash.; five daughters, Wendy DeWitt of Indiana, Sharon Everson of Deer Park, Nancy Michler of Federal Way, Wash., Fay Schmidt of Seattle and Joanne Thompson of Tennessee; three stepdaughters, Barbara Hinz of North Bend, Wash., Bonnie Larson of Portland and Patricia Larson of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Bob Schmidt of Auburn, Wash., and Don Schmidt of Spokane; three sisters, Roslind Ford of Yakima, Gleela Lusby of Olympia and Irene Myers of Renton, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Patricia Hilby Otis Orchards

Memorial service for Patricia Jean Hilby, 66, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Tree of Life Church in Otis Orchards. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Buffalo, Wyo., Mrs. Hilby died Wednesday.

She moved to Spokane in 1943 and worked at Key Tronic for several years.

She was a member of the Tree of Life Church.

Mrs. Hilby is survived by two sons, Robert and Douglas Williams, both of Ontario, Ore.; a daughter, Cindy Hamblen of Spokane; her mother, Martha Houghton of Spokane; a sister, Jane Lorenson of Spokane; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Patient Care or the Tree of Life Church.

Arbutus Garrett Newport, Wash.

Service for Arbutus P. Garrett, 82, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Priest River Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Mobridge, S.D., Mrs. Garrett died Monday.

She married Howard Garrett in 1931.

They moved to Hanford, Wash., in 1943. She worked as a laboratory technician for DuPont and General Electric.

They moved to rural Pend Oreille County in 1951.

She was a member of the Priest River Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the church relief society.

Her husband died in 1973.

Survivors include a daughter, Eunice Kilpatrick of Rexburg, Idaho; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jennie Meshishnek Chewelah, Wash.

Vigil service for Jennie Louise Meshishnek, 85, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Rosary Catholic Church in Chewelah. Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Meshishnek, a lifetime resident of the Chewelah area, died Wednesday.

She worked for Kulzer’s Store for 43 years as a bookkeeper and retired in 1986.

She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Valley, Wash., and St. Mary of the Rosary Catholic Church.

Survivors include four nephews, Andy Meshishnek of Lewiston, Bob Meshishnek of Pullman, Damond Meshishnek of Colville, Wash., and Howard Wacholtz of Missoula; four nieces, Verna Karns of Colville, Pat Esser of Genesee, Idaho, Elsie Henniger of Spokane and Dorothy Linscott of Seattle.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Rosary Catholic Church in Chewelah or Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Valley.

Raymond Lunt Spokane

Service for Raymond E. Lunt, 90, is planned for 2:30 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Lunt, who was born in Nevada, Mo., died Wednesday.

He graduated in 1925 from Nevada (Mo.) High School. He graduated from Union College in Lincoln, Neb., in 1946.

In 1930 he married Nellie Liter in Nevada, Mo.

Mr. Lunt ministered with Seventhday Adventist churches from 1946 until his retirement in 1972 from Huntington Park Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He moved to Spokane in 1987 from Paradise, Calif.

He was a member of Central Seventh-day Adventist Church.

His wife died in 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Norma Lunt of Spokane and Don Lunt of Bellingham; a brother, Everil Lunt, and a sister, Marie Epple, both of Missouri; and five grandchildren.

Pearl Brown Kellogg

Memorial service for Pearl Brown, 89, is planned for 10 a.m. today at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Everett, Mrs. Brown died Tuesday.

She married Milton Brown in 1928 and they moved to Gem, Idaho, and then to Wallace.

Her husband died in 1968.

Mrs. Brown moved to Kellogg in 1975 and was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son, Allen Brown of Spokane; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Everett Sandburg Spokane

No service will be held for Everett Alden Sandburg, 90, at his request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Sandburg died Monday.

He graduated from Carlton College in Northfield, Minn.

He served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy from 1942 to 1946 and also served in the Naval Reserve.

Mr. Sandburg worked in the wholesale clothing business and later worked for Murphey Favre as a registered representative in 1956.

In 1965 he married Bernadette King. The same year, he was elected as an officer and became a shareholder of Murphey Favre. He retired as vice president in 1973.

He had lived at Rockwood Manor for the past seven years.

He wife preceded him in death.

There are no surviving family members.

Wanda Birchard Newport, Ore.

No service will be held for Wanda Birchard, 93, at her request. DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Murray, Utah, Mrs. Birchard died Aug. 23.

In 1920 she married William Birchard.

Mrs. Birchard worked through World War II for Boyle Fuel Co., and later she and her husband managed an apartment complex in Spokane.

She moved to Newport three years ago.

Her husband died in 1979.

Mrs. Birchard is survived by a son, Robert Birchard of Newport; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jane McKay East Wenatchee, Wash.

Private family service will be held for Jane S. McKay, 83, at a later date. Telford’s Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. McKay, a former Spokane resident, died Monday.

She was born in North Dakota.

In 1937 she married Lewis McKay and they moved through Montana and Idaho before moving to Reardan, Wash., in 1948.

Mrs. McKay was a homemaker.

They moved to Anacortes, Wash., and then to Spokane in 1972. She moved to East Wenatchee eight months ago.

Her husband died in 1990.

Survivors include a son, Scott McKay of East Wenatchee; a daughter, Heather MacKenney of Redmond, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Mildred Klaus Spokane

Vigil service for Mildred O. Klaus, 85, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 8 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Klaus, who was born in Genesee, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She graduated from nursing school in Lewiston and worked as a registered nurse in Coeur d’Alene. She transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center in 1958 and retired in 1974.

Her husband of 52 years, Edward Klaus, died in 1990.

Survivors include a son, John Klaus of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Aloysius Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.

Valden White Spokane

Service for Valden William White, 89, was Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. White, who was born in Chattanooga, Okla., died Wednesday.

He graduated from Chelan (Wash.) High School.

He married Stella Fels in 1931 in Manson, Wash.

Mr. White owned and operated Auto-Rebuild Corp. in Seattle for 13 years.

In 1957 he went to work as an elder for Radio Church of God. He retired in 1988 from Worldwide Church of God after 27 years as an elder.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Glen White of Post Falls; a daughter, Maureen White of Manson; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Burdette Van Voorhis Latah

Memorial service for Burdette V. Van Voorhis, 73, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Church of Tekoa, Wash. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Van Voorhis, who was born in St. John, Wash., died Thursday.

He graduated from Tekoa High School in 1942.

As a young man, he worked for Benewah County, Idaho. He also logged and farmed and ran a grocery store in Benewah County.

He moved in 1967 to Fruitland, Wash., and operated a cattle ranch and also worked as a logger.

Mr. Van Voorhis moved to Mica in 1971.

He worked for Gardner & Smith Fertilizer Co. in Tekoa.

He semiretired in 1986 after moving to Latah.

Mr. Van Voorhis was a member of the Washington and Idaho Cattleman’s associations and was named Woodsman of the Year in Benewah County in 1964.

He is survived by two sons, Ron Van Voorhis of Mica and Paul Van Voorhis of Rockford; four daughters, Katherine Spencer of Boise, Diane Mabie of Mica, Barbara Jo Curley of Davenport, Wash., and Glorea Van Voorhis of Latah; a brother, James Van Voorhis of Hayden, Idaho; a sister, Joyce Larsen of Oakesdale, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Dwila Marion Fairfield

Memorial service for Dwila Marion, a lifetime Fairfield resident, will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Fairfield. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of the arrangements.

Ms. Marion died Aug. 28. She was 53.

She was a graduate of Fairfield High School and worked as an insurance secretary for several years.

Survivors include a brother, Elden Marion of Spokane.

John Bushnell Spokane

Memorial service for John Bushnell, 86, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Five Mile Community Church. Inurment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bushnell, who died Tuesday, was born in Sandpoint.

He worked as a chicken farmer.

Mr. Bushnell was a member of the Morgan Acres Fire Department.

He is survived by a cousin, Adaline McKelvy of Englewood, Fla.

Ida Flinn Spokane

Service for Ida Mae Flinn, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Flinn, who was born in Toppenish, Wash., died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 55 years.

Survivors include her husband, Austin; two sons, Stephen Flinn of Spokane and Laurence Flinn of Snohomish, Wash.; two daughters, Ardis Angel Marie Goffinett of Spokane and Patricia Adams of Turlock, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Timothy Cossins Spokane

Memorial service for Timothy D. Cossins, 45, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Cossins, a 27-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He was born in Glenwood Springs, Colo.

He served in the Army from 1972 to 1973 and was a self-employed musician.

Survivors include his fiancee, Linda Hubbell of Spokane; and two brothers, Bill and Bob Cossins, both of California.
