Vandals’ Early Skid Continues

Heather Cox’s 16 digs and 11 kills Friday led visiting Butler University (5-0) to a 15-13, 15-7, 15-5 win over the host Vandals at the University of Idaho Classic in Moscow.

Cox hit at a .444 percentage, tops for all regulars.

Amy Pickett added 11 kills and Jennifer Kintzel 37 assists for the Bulldogs from Indianapolis. Butler competes in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference.

Idaho (1-4) dropped its fourth consecutive match since defeating Michigan. The Vandals’ hitting percentage was a season-low .060.

Shalyne Lynch had 11 kills and Beth Craig 10 for the Vandals, 0-2 at the tourney. Idaho has lost its first two home matches for the first time in history.

Craig also had eight digs. Anna Reznicek led the Vandals with 24 assists.

Idaho meets Portland (3-2) and Wyoming (3-1) today as the tourney continues.

Lewis-Clark State, Northwest Nazarene and Albertson finished with 3-0 records after pool play of the 16-team Whitworth College Invitational.

They’ll join Western Baptist, the Pool B winner with a 2-1 record, in today’s championship round. L-C State will meet Northwest Nazarene at 9 a.m., followed by Western Baptist vs. Albertson. Winners play for the title, losers for third.

Whitworth completed play in Pool D with a 1-2 record. The Pirates lost to Albertson 15-13, 15-2, 15-13; defeated Western Montana 6-15, 15-10, 15-10, 12-15, 15-11; and lost to Simon Fraser 15-11, 12-15, 15-5, 17-15.

The host Pirates, third in their pool, will play other No. 3 teams today with ninth place as the top prize. Whitworth begins with Montana Tech.

The chase for fifth place is between Rocky Mountain, Western Washington, Pacific Lutheran and Simon Fraser, all 2-1 in their pools.

Community Colleges of Spokane lost four of five matches at the College of Southern Idaho Tournament in Twin Falls.

The Sasquatch defeated Columbia Basin Community College 15-13, 13-15, 15-5. JoEne Heimbigner of CCS averaged 18.6 assists per match, topped by her 31 against CBCC.
