Clearing the bases

Colorado’s Larry Walker became the most prolific Canadian home-run hitter with his 195th career homer. The homer broke a tie with Jeff Heath, who played from 1936-49… . Walker and Oakland’s Matt Stairs are the first two Canadians to hit at least 20 homers in the same season… . San Diego’s Greg Vaughn, buried in an 0-for-27 slump, went to an optometrist at the club’s prompting. Vaughn learned he was nearsighted.
