Venice In Spotlight

“Hana-bi,” a Japanese tale about a police officer whose personal tragedies lead him to rob a bank, won the Golden Lion for best movie at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday. Above, “Hana-bi” director-star Takeschi Kitano accepts his award. The best actor award went to Wesley Snipes for his role as a romantically troubled advertising executive in “One Night Stand,” by director Mike Figgis. Robin Tunney won for best actress in “Niagara Niagara,” from Bob Gosse. The 11-day event was notably lacking in the normal glitz and gossip. Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone were among the few big stars to show.
