Brewer To Unveil Name-Change Plan

From Staff And Wire Reports

City Councilman Mike Brewer tonight will formally unveil his proposal to let voters decide whether to put the falls back in Spokane.

Brewer is urging his colleagues to put a charter amendment on the November ballot aimed at changing the city’s name to “Spokane Falls.”

The proposal makes its first appearance on the agenda tonight, and the council usually doesn’t take public testimony when an ordinance is debuted.

Mayor Jack Geraghty said Friday the council likely will stick to that routine, saving testimony for a town hall meeting scheduled next week at the Northeast Community Center.

A briefing for the council begins at 3:30 p.m. in the lower-level conference room of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
