Meyer Leaves Depaul

Ray Meyer has ended his 55-year affiliation with DePaul, deciding he no longer wants to be a fund-raiser for the school that forced out his son, Joey, as basketball coach five months ago.

Meyer, 83, who coached the Blue Demons to a 724-354 record from 1942-84, had been serving as special assistant to the university president, the Rev. John Minogue.

Meyer was upset that athletic director Bill Bradshaw pressured Joey to resign on April 28. By then, most coaching vacancies around the country already had been filled.
