Driver Injured When Train Hits Pickup

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Sandpoint woman was injured Wednesday when she drove in front of a train and was thrown 100 feet from her vehicle, authorities said. Kathy Hendrixson, 50, was reported in fair condition at Bonner General Hospital. The accident happened in the morning on West Oden Bay Road, east of Sandpoint.

Hendrixson was northbound in a Chevy Blazer and failed to stop at the railroad crossing, Idaho State Police said. A Montana Raillink train hit the front end of the truck, spinning it around and tossing it into the air.

Hendrixson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle, landing 100 feet from the crash. She suffered head, neck and shoulder injuries.

The railroad crossing is near a curve and marked with a stop sign and crossbucks. No citations were issued.
