Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: One of my favorite tips is one I got from my daughter. Take two or three least-favorite lipsticks and blend them together to create a totally new color.

I use one of those wooden craft sticks to pry the lipstick out of the tube and then mix it in a small plastic screw-top container that you buy to use when traveling.

Then I bought an inexpensive lip brush. I have at least 15 more lipsticks that I had set aside because I didn’t like the color once I brought them home.

This is a real money-saver if you regularly pay $5 or more for a tube of lipstick. - Gloria McMahon, Converse, Texas

Dear Heloise: We keep an old fitted sheet in the back of our sport utility vehicle so when we fold the seat down (whether or not it’s messy stuff), we can protect the carpeting.

The fitted pockets on the sheet fit perfectly around the back of the folded-down seat so it stays in place. - Sandy Nelson, Burnsville, Minn.
