The Mayor Of Mt. Spokane Asb President Is Ready To Make A Difference At New High School

Josh Cowart is the first associated student body president at the new $22.5 million Mt. Spokane High School.

Why did he run?<

You’ll probably laugh - God told me to,” he says. “We have a new building, new staff and new students all thrown together. It’s a new start - a clean slate. They needed a leader.

“I’d like to see students making a difference, not just here at school, but all over the city. Break the mold, prove everybody wrong about the stereotypes.”

Cowart arrived 30 minutes early on the first day of school last Wednesday. “First day, first car,” he says, carefully guiding his ‘84 silver-gray Buick Century 4-door into his $20-a-semester parking space.

Cowart got his driver’s license five days before school started and is quick to show it off to friends.

Does he have a girlfriend?

“No,” he says. “Girls are trouble.”

Later in the day at lunch, Cowart heads across the courtyard to join a group of about 10 girls.

“Are we supposed to be honored by your presence?” the girls tease.

“I definitely know people are watching me,” Cowart says. “If I goof up, I’m gonna hear about it.”
