A man was arrested Thursday in the abduction and rape of a 13-year-old girl.
A citizen called authorities after spotting a man matching the suspect’s description near the intersection of Highway 99 and Kent-Des Moines Road, police said.
An undercover officer followed the man’s car to a shopping mall, and officers in marked police cars then closed in.
The victim, a ninth-grader at Lakota Junior High School, was abducted Wednesday while waiting for her school bus, said Bob Schubert of the Federal Way police.
Her kidnapper, a man in his 30s, forced her into a gray Buick Century about 7 a.m., drove her to a nearby motel and raped her, police said.
The girl managed to escape and arrived about 9:30 a.m. at her school, where officials notified police.
