Oak Quilt Rack Simple For Beginners To Build

Here’s a classic solution to an old problem. In days past, when cold drafts crept through the house and the fire in the wood-burning stove died out, it was common to grab an extra quilt or blanket from the quilt rack next to the bed. Even with modern heating, there’s nothing like a cozy quilt to remedy chilly nights.

The project is simple enough for most do-it-yourselfers, even beginners. Made from standard oak lumber and doweling, the rack requires only five different cuts and 15 pieces in all. The curved cuts for the two side pieces are traced from full-size patterns, and the remainder of the cuts are straight. After cutting them out, the pieces are simply drilled and assembled using dowel pins, screws and glue. The whole unit is then sanded and stained or painted.

The completed quilt rack measures about 31 inches tall by 31 inches long by 18 inches deep.
