Man Fleeing Police Drives Into Train

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane man attempted to elude six police cars early Friday morning but instead ran into a train, police said.

Witnesses said the man was driving with a beer can in his hand. He was headed west on Sprague Avenue in a 1984 Mazda.

When police tried to stop him, he turned onto a ramp at a building, located at Stevens and Sprague. When two officers on foot chased him, he accelerated and hit one of them, police said. The officer was not seriously injured.

The driver, who appeared to be intoxicated, drove onto the railroad tracks, where he broadsided a slow-moving train.

Police arrested Dustin J. Brower. The 26-year-old suffered a cut from the accident. He was treated and released at a local hospital.

Brower faces charges of driving under the influence, first-degree assault and attempting to elude police. , DataTimes
