Lc, Pf Runners Take 2nds At Meet

Lake City’s Libby Gerber and Brandi Elder, plus Tiffany Moate of Post Falls all placed second in their girls age divisions at Saturday’s 19th annual Valley Invitational cross country meet at Liberty Lake County Park.

Gerber ran the 3-mile course in 20 minutes, 59 seconds, the third-fastest girls time of the day and No. 2, behind Michelle Cesal (20:15) of host University, among junior girls.

Moate ran 21:47 in the sophomore division, 1 second faster than Elder ran among the freshmen.

Other top efforts by local runners were: Mike Keith, LC, third place, senior boys, 17:07; Charlie Miller, LC, third, junior boys, 16:49; Max Schmidt, LC, fifth, sophomore boys, 18:08; Travis Newby, Coeur d’Alene, third, freshman boys, 18:30; and Nicole Herman, LC, seventh, senior girls, 23:32.

Girls soccer

Holly Davidson’s three goals and two assists guided Moscow (3-1, 2-1) to a 10-0 North Idaho League win over visiting Post Falls (0-3).

Ellie Graham and Brenda Robinson added two goals and one assist apiece for the Bears.

Also in the league, Paige Smith piled up five assists during Lakeland’s 9-0 win over visiting Bonners Ferry (0-1). Cara Barnes scored twice within the first eight minutes for the Hawks (1-4, 1-3).

Jeanne Russell stopped eight shots to preserve Lake City’s scoreless tie at Cheney in a non-league match. The Timberwolves are 2-2-1.

Volleyball

Sandpoint defeated St. Maries 15-11, 15-13 in the championship match of the Clarkston Invitational.

St. Maries won its pool, including two-game sweeps of Cheney and Kennewick, and topped La Grande (Ore.) 16-14, 15-0 in the semifinals.

Mary Kolar was named to the all-tourney team as her host Knights finished second at the Lakeside Invitational.

Deary won the tourney and placed Sara Proctor, Jessica Paterek and Katie Cannon on the all-tourney team.

Football

Salmon defeated Kellogg 26-0 in a non-league game at Salmon.

The Wildcats dropped to 0-2. No details were reported.
