Bill Gates, Andrew Young To Speak In Spokane

Bill Gates and Andrew Young, both well-known world-wide, will speak at major events in Spokane this week.

On Tuesday, Young, former mayor of Atlanta and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, will speak at the annual meeting of the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce. The event, which marks the chamber’s 100th anniversary, starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Ag Trade Center. Former Congressman Young is now chairman of the South Africa Enterprise Development fund.

Microsoft Chairman Gates is keynote speaker for the Spokane County United Way kickoff celebration which starts with an agency fair at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Ag Trade Center. The program starts at 8 a.m. Washington Gov. Gary Locke also is scheduled to speak.

The Oregon Wheat Growers League holds a workshop to discuss air quality regulations, legislation, salmon recovery and wheat fungus at the Best Western/ Sunridge in Baker City, Ore., starting at 8:30 a.m. Call 541-276-1723.

Wednesday

United Way of Spokane County kickoff, with agency fair at 7 a.m., program at 8 a.m., at the Ag Trade Center.

Northwest Power Planning Council meets in Helena to vote on a recommendation to the Bonneville Power Administration on how to spend $127 million to recover fish and wildlife in the Columbia Basin.

Thursday

Randy Lert, chief investment officer for the Frank Russell Co., speaks at Gonzaga University Dean’s Business Forum, which begins at 7:15 a.m. at the Jepson Center on campus. Call 509-328-4220, ext. 3404.
