Marine Denies Kidnapping, Rape

Associated Press

One of two Marines accused of assault, kidnapping and rape this summer at a campground on Mount Hood pleaded innocent Monday and will face trial Dec. 2.

Rudolph Jackson, 29, of Gresham, Ore., appeared in Wasco County Circuit Court regarding the June 21st incident near the Clear Lake Campground.

Co-defendant Clinton Bergmann, 24, of Vancouver, Wash., faces identical charges but has not entered a plea.

He’ll return to court Oct. 6.

The Marine sergeants are accused of pulling a Portland man from his tent, beating him and taping him to a tree. Jackson then allegedly raped the man’s female companion with Bergmann’s help.

Jackson remains jailed in Goldendale, Wash., in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Bergmann is free on bail. Both worked with the Marine recruiting program in the Portland area.
