Dollar Hits 4-Month High Vs. Yen

The dollar jumped to a four-month high against the yen Thursday in tandem with U.S. stock and bond markets, and also rose against the mark after Germany’s central bank left interest rates unchanged.

The dollar peaked at 122.30 in midmorning trading - its highest level since early June - on an early rally in stocks and bonds after a report that the U.S. trade deficit surged in July.

“Dollar-yen (trading) is following the U.S. financial markets,” said Andrew Hodge, vice president of foreign exchange at Bank Brussels Lambert in New York.
