A man whose wife says they had agreed to a chaste marriage pleaded innocent Monday to sexually assaulting the woman.
The 34-year-old woman testified the first assault came about a week after the couple’s January wedding.
“Our marriage wasn’t about that. That’s why we had separate rooms. There wasn’t supposed to be any sex. … He always said that he couldn’t,” she said.
“He raped me. I told him to get … out of my room. He said, ‘You’re my wife!,”’ she said.
The 67-year-old man is charged with three counts of felony third-degree sexual assault and two counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault.
The woman told authorities she considered their arrangement a Christian marriage of companionship. She said she married so she could care for him and he would be there for her and her children.
