Lewiston Gets Revenge

Idaho soccer

Garry Busch apparently had his Lewiston girls soccer team pegged from the start of the season.

Busch said his Bengals might start slowly but would be competitive by the second half of the season.

The first proof of his statement came Tuesday, when Lewiston (2-3-1) toppled visiting Lake City 5-1 in a North Idaho League match. LC (4-3-1, 3-3-0) defeated the Bengals 5-0 to open the season.

Junior Bryn Devlin scored a pair of unassisted goals, the first after beating two fullbacks and the second on a direct free kick. Devlin also scored twice in two other league matches.

Lewiston’s Carmen Zobel added two assists. Goalkeeper Jenelle Andrews was within 1 minute of a shutout before Ali Chisholm scored.

LC’s goalkeeper, Jeanne Russell, rolled her ankle in warmups and gave way to a junior varsity player.

Elsewhere, Tashena Taylor totaled two goals and one assist as leagueleading Sandpoint (8-0, 7-0) stopped visiting Bonners Ferry 10-0.

Stacy Bolstad, Anna Chatman and Tiffani Thomas added two goals apiece for the Bulldogs. Defender Amanda Cravens opened the second half with a goal from the high point, 25 yards out. The Badgers are 0-5.

At Moscow, freshman Brenda Robinson’s three goals guided the Bears (5-2) over visiting Lakeland 7-0.

Robinson has 13 goals this season. Moscow sweeper Sarah Meyer added one goal and two assists before the 25-minute mark. The Hawks (1-5-1, 1-4-1) assisted on one of the goals, as a crossing pass hit a Lakeland fullback and careened into the goal.
