Scott To Skip Camp

Dennis Scott plans to skip training camp next month, protesting what he says are disparaging comments by Orlando Magic management. The star forward contends the team has criticized his personal life and told outsiders he has little trade value.

The National Basketball Association’s chief of officiating, Darell Garretson, said he’ll recommend that two women be among the finalists vying to fill five vacancies this season. The women, Dee Kantner and Violet Palmer, both worked NBA exhibition games last season and will again this year.

Fila USA, which is in danger of falling from third place in the U.S. sneaker market, cemented its ties to its best-known endorser, NBA star Grant Hill, with a new $80 million contract for seven years.

Kelvin Cato, a former Iowa State center selected 15th overall in the NBA draft, signed a multiyear contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
