Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: What is the correct way to turn a mattress? I know it should be turned head to foot and side to side, but how often must you flip it over? Mildred Gregory, Houston

How often to flip? Every couple of months, says the Better Sleep Council.

If you buy a new mattress, it’s best to turn it every two weeks for a couple of months until it’s “broken in.”

By turning the mattress over and end to end it should keep the “wear” even so you won’t get caught sleeping on a lumpy bed!

How long can you expect a good mattress to last? It should remain comfy and give you support for as long as eight to 10 years if you turn it regularly. So, flip and flop and stretch your bedding dollars. - Heloise
