Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

By The Spokesman-Review

Can a slump do anything but end once it reaches the point where picking most of the right horses doesn’t pay because the right horses are in the wrong order? Despite eight wins and six seconds from 24 races, Saturday through Monday were three more losing days with Monday’s losses the most painful because three second picks won and paid more than $10 each.

Thanks heavens, after 12 losing days in 13, this is a new week with 10 races per day instead of eight.

The featured seventh race looks like a stakes race tuneup what with Inaugural winner Esperit de Bogen and perennial sprint Che Meza in a field of eight. Hit Man Mackee looks like the the best horse, and trainer Sydnee Brown’s horses run well fresh, but Esperit de Bogen is so sharp it’s hard to go against him. Together, they look like the exacta.

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: Daily doubles pairing GRAY TUNE, CHARMIN DOLLY, FOLLOW SUIT and JEST CAITLIN with CN FORWYNS ($8).

THIRD: $1 trifecta wheeling MERLOT to FS FLASH DANCE, FS DESERT WIND and TAF PTOVARSKY ($6).

FIFTH: $5 to win on WILLAPA BAY and $2 exacta both ways with ALY MACKEE ($4).

SEVENTH: $5 exactas pairing ESPERIT DE BOGEN and HIT MAN MACKEE both ways ($10).

EIGHTH: $10 to win on PRINCE OTTO and $2 exactas with RUN Z’S FESTIVAL, BABYTAKEMEOUTSIDE and HOOPS ($6).

NINTH: $2 exacta box of WRITTEN IN MYRRH, MY BEST HABIT and SASH GANG ($12).

TENTH: $1 trifecta box of NORTHERN RAGE, GEE OH DEE, CLEVER PURSUIT and MAJESTIC TRUTH ($24).

Original bankroll: $2,000.

Monday’s result: Lost $38.
