The Slice Letter Is A Window On Real-Life Drama

A friend passed along a hand-written note found in a local bank.

It had nothing to do with financial transactions.

The note, which wasn’t in an envelope, is addressed to someone with a boy’s name. It is signed by someone with a girl’s name.

Apparently they used to go out. But now the boy is spending all his time with someone named Jeff.

Here’s how it starts. “(Boy’s name deleted), I’m sorry I didn’t just talk to you about how I feel, but lately it’s been hard for me to even know how I feel. I don’t care if you and Jeff are together…

“You’re my best friend at this school and lately you’ve really been worrying me. It really is weird to see you changing.

“…It just seems like you’re pushing everyone that cares about you - except Jeff - away. Me, (another name we’re deleting), your mom.

“I love you. I’m forcing myself to not be IN love with you but I still love you….”

We’ve said it before. TV’s got nothing on real-life drama.

Keep on spellin’: Les Panther was tucking his 6-year-old son Tim into bed when he asked the boy what he had done in school that day.

“I wrote a bunch of words - like ‘truck’ and stuff,” Tim answered.

His dad asked him to spell ‘truck’.

“T-E…,” Tim started.

“Try again,” his dad advised.

“T-E-R-U-C,” Tim said.

“T-R-U-C-K,” his dad corrected.

“Oh,” said Tim. “Then I guess I didn’t write ‘truck’.”

Yes, we are part of America (the Seattle Post-Intelligencer discovers Spokane): “Drive along Division, the main north-south street through town, and you’ll recognize the names of dozens of Northwest and national companies:

Costco, Circuit City, Toys “R” Us, Target, Kinko’s, Fred Meyer, Midas Muffler, Blockbuster Video, Minit Lube, Payless, The Bon Marche, Walgreen’s, Sears.”

Now the writer didn’t present that passage in a Spokane-bashing way. Still, it cracks us up that anyone would find it noteworthy that this city had not been bypassed during the franchising of the nation.

Just in case you want to know what kind of apple Moses Lake’s Vic and Phyllis Franz like best: It’s the Fuji.

She drives one, too: Sally Littell is another Spokane Mustang Sally.

Warm-up question: What percentage of local parents occasionally have dreams in which they are wrestling with strollers?

Today’s Slice question: Who is the Spokane area’s most consistently good-natured rec league athlete?
