Fcc Chief Tips Off His True Passion

The nation’s top TV regulator, Bill Kennard, says broadcasters should give political candidates free or reduced-cost air time for ads to help reform campaign financing, and calls the issue “a very important debate that we need to have.”

But Kennard confessed Tuesday that he didn’t tune into the House’s debate Monday night that ended up, for now, killing campaign finance overhaul efforts in Congress.

“I’m afraid I was watching the basketball game,” the Federal Communications Commission chief told a House hearing.
