Hartman’s Big Points Send Eagles To Defeat

Associated Press

Jason Hartman scored 17 points and Jamaal Sanford added 11 with eight rebounds Saturday night to lead Portland State to a 72-59 Big Sky Conference victory over Eastern Washington.

The second-place Vikings stayed in the thick of the conference title race by improving their Big Sky record to 6-2. They are 11-8 overall.

Eastern Washington (9-9, 3-5) took an 8-0 lead in the first 3 minutes and led 14-4 at the 15:26 mark before Portland State stepped up its defense. The Eagles made only 3 of their 19 field-goal attempts during the remainder of the first half.

The Vikings took a 36-25 halftime lead after a 12-0 run that included six points by Hartman.

Eastern Washington rallied to within nine points, 55-46, with 7:30 to play, but Jamie Snook hit consecutive 3-pointers and Hartman added a trey of his own to put the game out of reach.

Jon Berger led Eastern Washington with 14 points. Michael Lewis added 13 for the Eagles, who made only 21 of 60 field-goal attempts.
