Oklahoma Showcases Alvan Adams

Associated Press

The University of Oklahoma retired Alvan Adams’ No. 33 jersey on Saturday, making him just the second OU athlete in any sport to be so honored.

Adams, who still holds four school records, played for the Sooners from 1972-73 through 1974-75. He was an All-American and the Big Eight’s player of the year in 1975 and left as the leading scorer and rebounder in school history.

He now ranks seventh on the OU scoring list with 1,707 points and third in rebounds with 938. His average of 12.8 rebounds per game, however, remains the best in school history.

He also holds game records for rebounds (28) and field goal percentage (100 - 11 for 11), and the season record for rebound average (13.3).

Adams went on to play 13 seasons with the Phoenix Suns and was the NBA’s rookie of the year in 1975-76.

OU retired Wayman Tisdale’s No. 23 basketball jersey in a ceremony last year.
