Q. What was Elvis Presley’s first film? What year?

A. “Love Me Tender.” In 1956. Born that year: Tom Hanks, Montel Williams and Mel Gibson.

Does it have to be exact? Certainly. If 99.9 percent were good enough, it would be all right for the proofreaders of your big dictionary to leave uncorrected about 400 misspelled words.

The humorist Fred Allen did great work on radio, but fine wit on radio does not re-emerge so assuredly as does comedy in manuscripts and movies. Too bad. It was Allen who defined a bigamist as “the chap who has had one too many.”
