Special License Plate Requested For Skiers

Compiled From Wire Services

The state is seeking permission to issue a special vehicle license plate for snow skiers to raise money for use in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games Strategy Program.

The state Division of Tourism hopes to lure tourists and provide training facilities for teams entered in the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Sponsors of a bill introduced in the Idaho House on Monday say the special license plates could generate $140,000.

For a special fee of $35 and $25 for renewal each year after the year of issue, a motorist could receive a special plate designed by the Idaho Ski Areas Association. Out of each fee, $10 will go into the promotional fund. The special fees are in addition to regular vehicle registration fees.
