Two Accused Of Kidnapping, Assault, Burglary Two Other Men Linked To Weekend Break-In Have Not Been Found

Intruders wielding a laser-sighted pistol held two men at gunpoint, bound one with duct tape and ransacked a Coeur d’Alene home last weekend.

A man and woman identified as two of the intruders were arrested in front of the home shortly after the break-in.

Michael J. Garcia, 36, and his 31-year-old girlfriend, Lisa N. Chimenti, appeared Monday before a judge to face charges of kidnapping, burglary and two counts each of aggravated assault. Garcia also is charged with battery.

Two other men believed to have forced their way inside the home early Saturday have not been found, police said. Both wore ski masks.

Police were called to 1037 N. 16th about 12:10 a.m. to a burglary in progress.

Michelle McCartney, 27, told officers she heard men yelling in the basement. She ran to the kitchen to call police and saw three men, including two wearing ski masks, walking near a window.

Moments later, they kicked open her back door and one of them grabbed McCartney by the hair, she told police.

McCartney’s boyfriend, Shawn Davis, was in the basement doing laundry when he heard a knock at the door. Davis opened the door and was rushed by three men and a woman.

One man punched Davis several times, knocking him to the ground. A masked man then hit Davis in the left side of the face with a club. Another man duct-taped his hands and feet and pointed a gun at his chest.

After the intruders had left the basement, Davis managed to free himself and he climbed out a window.

Meanwhile, a man pointed a pistol with a laser sight at McCartney’s roommate, Charkee Wickstrom. Wickstrom, who was awakened by the commotion, told police the man pointed the gun at him for several seconds and left his bedroom.

Garcia and Chimenti were standing in the front yard when officers arrived, police reports said. They told police they were at the house to collect some things that belonged to Chimenti, who had previously dated Davis.

Garcia told police Davis let them inside. Garcia told police an argument ensued, but denied committing a crime.
