Cda Man Charged In Shooting Death On North Side

A Coeur d’Alene man pulled a semiautomatic handgun from his belt and fired as many as six shots, killing a Spokane man after a fight over money, according to an affidavit filed Tuesday in Spokane County District Court.

Tyler M. Wiltse is accused of second-degree murder in the death of Wayne L. Tolbert on Jan. 30.

According to the court documents, Wiltse grabbed a phone from a friend who tried to call 911 after the argument and ripped the cord from the wall. Wiltse then drove away and left Tolbert to die in the doorway of the home at 1314 N. Madelia, the documents state.

Wiltse, 27, made his first court appearance Tuesday. He was jailed Monday after Idaho State Police troopers stopped him in Post Falls.

He is being held on $100,000 bond.

Ronald M. Gehring, who lives at the North Madelia home, told police that Tolbert, Wiltse and Rae Lynn Johnson arrived at the house about midnight, the affidavit states.

The group argued over money. A fight ensued. At one point, Tolbert knocked Wiltse unconscious in the kitchen and took his wallet, the affidavit states.

When Wiltse regained consciousness, he walked into the living room and shot Tolbert, according to the documents.

Johnson told police she and Wiltse had spent most of the evening together drinking. They picked up Tolbert at the Flame Restaurant at Sprague and Altamont.

Gehring and Johnson identified Wiltse in a police lineup.
