Brianne Jolley Lakeside Year: Senior Sport: Basketball Position: Forward

Brianne Jolley’s sense of urgency matches that of Lakeside’s coaches.

Jolley’s urgency comes from playing at three state tournaments without competing in a title game. Her fourth and final chance at state appears assured, as 2A second-ranked Lakeside (12-1) has won 11 consecutive games after last Friday’s victory over fourth-ranked Riverside.

Lakeside coaches are feeling some trepidation because Brianne is the final member of her successful sports family expected to compete at the Nine Mile Falls school. Jolley’s six younger brothers and sisters have moved to the West Valley and East Valley districts.

“It’s been hard but I talk to my mom every day; probably more than I did when I was living at home,” said Jolley, who is spending her senior year with the family of Eagles guard Julia Vojtech.

Sister Lora is a starting guard for Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston. Brother Terry, a former state champion, wrestles at Wyoming.

Brianne selected St. Mary’s of the West Coast Conference because of the school’s psychology program and her rapport with the basketball coach and players. Portland and Idaho also recruited the versatile 5-foot-11 player, last year’s Northeast A League most valuable player.

Lakeside has placed third, sixth and seventh at state with Jolley. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
