Outlying Counties Successfully Pass School Levies

School levies swept to victory in Stevens County this week.

Proposals in the Kettle Falls, Mary Walker (Springdale) and Columbia (Hunters) school districts all passed with strong support. Voter turnout also was large enough to validate all the levies, although Mary Walker had a close call.

Financial measures need turnouts equal to 40 percent or more of the turnout in the last general election - or yes votes equal to 60 percent of that number - as well as a majority of at least 60 percent.

The results, with yes votes listed first, and the percentage of support: Kettle Falls, 384-114, 77.1 percent yes; Mary Walker, 187-96, 65.1 percent; Columbia, 172-42, 80.1 percent.

Elsewhere, a levy in the Reardan-Edwall School District, which spans Lincoln and Spokane counties, passed with 66 percent support, 502-259.

Results in other Lincoln and Whitman county districts that cross county lines remain unchanged from the numbers reported Wednesday.
