Chain-Reaction Wreck Hurts Father, Son

A father and son were badly injured Wednesday in a chain-reaction car wreck in northern Spokane County, state troopers said.

The crash, which involved a semi-truck, occurred at about 6:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 2 near the Pend Oreille County line.

Elk residents Linvle G. Baggett, 49, and Christopher Baggett, 19, were injured in the crash.

They were standing on the southbound shoulder making emergency repairs to their 1985 Mazda four-door when a Kenworth semi-truck hit a pickup that was parked behind the Mazda.

The pickup slammed into the Mazda, pushing it into the Baggetts.

The semi slid across the highway, dragging the pickup with it, before stopping in a ditch on the east side.

Linvle Baggett received massive head trauma, including a ruptured right pupil, troopers said. He was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane by helicopter.

His son suffered a bruised stomach and liver.

The driver of the semi, 45-year-old Blaine Thomas of Spokane, wasn’t hurt. All the vehicles were totaled, troopers said.
