Colville’s Win Muddies Great Northern Chase

Boys basketball

Shane Meinhold drilled a 3-pointer to break a tie under the 2-minute mark to spark Colville to a 51-46 win over No. 3 Pullman Saturday night and throw the Great Northern League boys basketball race into a three-way battle for first.

Meinhold had 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to lead the Indians (10-5 overall, 7-2 GNL). Matt Weaver hit 6 of 10 shots and scored seven points in the fourth quarter to lead Colville.

Ryan Harms had all 14 of his points and Brent Cummings 11 of his 17 in the second half for the Greyhounds (12-2, 8-2).

Medical Lake also has two losses in league play.

Chad Headlee hit 3 of 4 3-pointers in the first quarter to get the Cardinals (11-5, 8-2) off to a quick start against the visiting Grizzlies (5-9, 1-8).

Five players scored in double figures for the Cards, led by Andre Jackson with 18 points, and Brandon Moore had 10 rebounds.

Travis Meserve hit 10 of 15 shots and Josh Parrish 6 of 8 to lift the Cougars (10-5, 6-3) to the road win over the Eagles (4-11, 3-6).

Meserve finished with 21 points and Jason Landram 19 as the Cougars made 29 of 49 shots, blitzing the Eagles 31-12 in the third quarter.

The Rams (5-10, 3-6) shot better in their own gym to turn back the Stags (3-12, 1-8).

Led by Jim Murphy, who hit 3 of 4 3-pointers, Riverside was 19 of 45 from the field and 19 of 26 from the line. DP hit just 16 of 58 shots and 13 of 21 free throws.

The Scotties (14-5, 5-0) got off to a quick start and held off the home-standing Bulldogs (5-13, 0-4) to clinch the league title. Ryan Snyder led Freeman with 16 points. The Scotties opened a 20-5 lead but the Bulldogs, who got 20 points from Ben George, closed within four entering the fourth quarter.

Jesse Quirk hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left to lift the Knights (3-15, 2-12) past the Bantams (5-12, 3-11) at EV.

Nick Olson, who had 12 points in the second half, grazed the rim with a last-second shot for Clarkston.
