Bowden’s Flights Costly

Compiled From Wire Services

Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden took 48 trips last year on planes owned by the state, costing taxpayers almost $60,000, the Tampa Tribune reported.

While the trips Bowden took were worth over $100,000, the university was only asked to pay a portion of the bill, leaving state taxpayers to pay the remaining $59,088 plus another $17,008 for 10 additional flights Bowden took last month, the paper said.

A wetlands and waterfowl conservation group plans to name a wildlife management area in central Nebraska in honor of former Cornhuskers quarterback Brook Berringer, who was killed in a plane crash just months after Nebraska won the 1995 national championship.

Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning will receive the Sullivan Award, given to the nation’s outstanding amateur athlete of 1997, the Nashville Banner reported.
