Detectives Will Interview 14-Year-Old Father

From Staff And Wire Reports

The investigation into whether Mary Kay Letourneau and the 14-year-old boy who fathered her 9-month-old daughter had sex in her five weeks of freedom could last into next week, officials said Monday.

Letourneau, 36, was sentenced to seven years and five months in prison Friday for two counts of second-degree child rape. The sentence had been suspended at her sentencing last fall but was imposed when the former teacher violated a court order that she have no contact with the boy.

She was taken into custody last Tuesday when police found her and the teen together in her car at 3 a.m. There were no signs of sexual contact at that time. But prosecutors have been told the two had sexual contact at least once not long after her Jan. 2 release from jail, King County prosecutor’s spokesman Dan Donohoe said.

Detectives will have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday to talk with the boy, said Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Joanne Elledge. His lawyer, Robert Huff, wants to be present and won’t be available until then.

That delay likely will carry the investigation into next week, Elledge said.

It is not clear whether additional charges would be filed, Donohoe said.

The boy reportedly told his therapist that he and Letourneau were having sex after her release, and the therapist contacted Child Protective Services.
