Mariners, Lira Agree To Contract

Associated Press

Pitcher Felipe Lira and the Seattle Mariners agreed Monday to a one-year contract worth $415,000.

Lira, the last Seattle player in arbitration, can earn up to $80,000 in performance bonuses based on starts and innings.

Lira made $285,000 last season. He had asked for $750,000 in arbitration and the Mariners had offered $325,000. The agreement avoids an arbitration hearing that had been scheduled today in Phoenix.

Lira was 0-4 last season with a 9.16 ERA.
