Highway Panel May Be Expanded

Rep. Dave Bivens said people in his west Ada County legislative district feel they get little representation from the Ada County Highway Commission.

At the Meridian Republican’s request, the House Transportation Committee on Tuesday approved introduction of Bivens’ bill to increase membership on the commission from three to five people.

If the measure becomes law, the commission could call for an election on the expansion or it could go on the ballot through petitions signed by 5 percent of the people who live in the district.

The Ada County Highway District covers Boise, Ada County and all the other cities in the state’s most populous county.
