‘58 Fanatic Valley Man’s Bevy Of Chevys Gives His Weekends Polish

Jim Corbett turns 58 next week. He knows it’s going to be a really good year.

The Valley man graduated from high school in 1958. He bought his first 1958 Chevrolet Impala later that year.

The Chevy caught the eye of a girl named Lynn. They haven’t been married 58 years yet, but they plan to be.

Corbett’s home phone number ends with 58. His work identification number is 58.

“Even my social security number has a 58 in it,” said Corbett, a stockbroker who spends his Saturdays and weekday evenings restoring ‘58 Chevys in his workshop.

He’s owned 31 of the cars so far. He’s got nine now, six of which are restored.

They include a Corvette, an Impala convertible, an Impala hardtop, a Cameo pickup truck, a Belair 4-door hardtop and a Nomad station wagon.

The Chevys have earned him at least 58 ribbons, plaques and trophies at car shows throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Actually, he probably has more than 58 awards. He’s now fixing up a special room to display them all.

Yes, 58 is definitely Corbett’s favorite number. It’s also a lucky one.

“It’s one of the reasons I married him,” his wife said. “I liked that ‘58 Chevy.”
