Dollar Gains Ground On Yen

The dollar rose against the Japanese yen Thursday amid rumors that Japanese officials can’t assemble as strong a fiscal stimulus package as presumed.

The dollar fell against the German mark, which was bolstered by the yen’s overall weakness. The dollar also fell against the British pound as traders decided they liked the prospect of higher British interest rates, which would make the pound more attractive.

“It’s been that kind of market. You can’t be too married to any one view for too long,” said Ricardo Gomes, head of foreign exchange at Republic National Bank.
