Floridians Eligible For Disaster Aid

Compiled From Wire Services

President Clinton designated a three-county disaster area in Florida on Thursday, making residents eligible for federal help cleaning up after last week’s El Nino-related storms and flooding.

“The damage and disaster caused by El Nino have been particularly punishing to residents of South Florida,” Vice President Al Gore said in a statement accompanying the president’s official declaration.

“President Clinton and I are committed to doing everything we can to help the families of South Florida in this difficult time and to ensure a speedy recovery for all affected by this tragedy.”

Clinton’s action made federal assistance - including disaster housing, grants and low-cost loans - available to residents of Broward, Dade and Monroe Counties.
