This Prowler Has A Big, Purple Attitude Plymouth’s Exciting New Prowler Makes Its Spokane Debut

SHOWSTOPPERS NO. 1

Hot on the heels of the uber-macho Viper, and following years of a slow tease, Chrysler finally has given us the Plymouth Prowler.

The Prowler marries hamburger-stand good looks with high-tech production techniques including heavy doses of aluminum and magnesium in places where weight counts, projector headlights and Chrysler’s fun clutchless AutoStick transmission.

Forget practicality the trunk is an afterthought and the Prowler is about cruising to the lake on sunny Sunday afternoons.

The single engine offering is a 214-hp V-6, but by the end of the year, you can expect to see a more powerful 1999 model. It will get the Intrepid’s V-6, tuned to perhaps 250-hp.

In current trim, 0-60 comes up in about seven seconds; goodness knows what the new one will do.

There’ll be a new color, too a yellow as yellow as the traditional Prowler purple is purple.

Otherwise in the Plymouth lineup, there’s a new Breeze trim level, the economical “Expresso,” and the powerplant now cranks out 150 hp. The subcompact Neon is quieter this year and a new, “Style” model offers power sunroof, AM/FM/CD/cassette stereo and power locks, windows and mirrors.

And the Voyager gets a new clean-air engine to replace last year’s natural gas V-6, a 3.3-liter ethanol-eater.
