Big Accounting Merger Called Off

From Staff And Wire Reports

KPMG Peat Marwick and Ernst & Young Friday called off their planned merger that would have created the world’s biggest accounting firm with about $18 billion in revenue.

A spokesman for KPMG Peat Marwick would not provide details, but noted the deal, which was announced in late October, was under scrutiny by antitrust regulators here and in Europe.
