Aggies Down UI On Late 3-Pointer Vandals Suffer Fifth Loss In Big West Conference

Denmark Reid hit a 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds to play, giving New Mexico State a 65-64 Big West Conference men’s basketball win over Idaho on Saturday night.

Reid led the Aggies with 16 points.

Idaho (13-9, 7-5) took a 64-63 lead when Kevin Byrne hit a 10-foot jumper with 15.3 seconds to play.

New Mexico State (16-10, 6-6) jumped on top 17-9 after Reid hit a 3-pointer with 14:57 to play in the first half. But Idaho cut the lead to 33-30 at the half.

Reid hit a 3 to give New Mexico State a 40-30 lead with 18 minutes to play.

Vandals guard Kris Baumann hit a 3-pointer, his only field goal of the game, and cut the Aggies’ lead to 48-42.

After a turnover, Louis Richardson scored with a dunk but it was New Mexico State’s last successful shot for 11 minutes.

The Vandals chipped away at the lead while the Aggies turned cold. Cameron Banks hit two free throws with 2:22 left in the game. The Vandals went up 62-60 with a jumper by Banks.

The Golden Eagles (23-3, 11-3 Scenic West) rode Greg McQuay’s 26 points to their victory over the Cardinals (15-11, 5-10) at Coeur d’Alene.

NIC played without center Steven Ryan, who hasn’t received medical clearance after suffering a concussion two weeks ago.
